New Education Policy: CBSE Board Exam 2024 class 10th, 12th exam Pattern to be changed

NEP CBSE Class 10th & 12th Board Exam 2024 Exam Pattern Revised: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made revised in the assessment scheme for classes 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. This change will be applicable from the next year’s examination i.e. academic year 2023-24. Based on these new guidelines, CBSE will be adding 20 percent of MCQ based questions for Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 from the Academic Session of 2023 to 24. Under this, the number of multiple choice questions will be increased in the exam and less weightage will be given to long and short question answers. As per CBSE these changes have been made on the lines of the National Education Policy 2020.

CBSE Board Exam 2024: Focus will be on competency based questions

The National Education Policy emphasizes that learning should be more focused so that the creative and critical thinking of the child can be nurtured. With this, children will be able to handle the challenges coming in the 21st century better. The changes being made in the exam pattern are to increase the competence of the children, hence, due to this, CBSE will be giving more competency based questions to candidates during their board exams. Students would get questions which would be based on real-life applications.

CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2023 pattern revised

Based on these new guidelines, Objective type questions will now be MCQs which will be given 20 percent weightage. The weightage of short and long answer type questions has been reduced from 40 percent to 30 percent. CBSE Exam pattern of questions will be such that source based integrated questions will come, case based questions will come. Overall, more questions will be asked to promote the critical thinking of the children.

For the 2022-23, these questions would comprise of 30 percent of the paper. For the Board exams 2024, around 50 percent of the questions would be MCQ based.

CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2023 pattern revised

In class 12th, 40 percent questions will be competency based and will come in the form of MCQs. In the last session, 30 percent weightage was given to such questions. Compared to last year, when 50 percent weightage was given to long and short answer type questions, it will be reduced to 40 percent this year.

As per CBSE Short Answer type Questions/Long Answer type Questions, for Classes 9 and 10 would be 30 percent and 40 percent for Classes 11 and 12.

  1. Competency Focused Questions in the form of MCQs/Case Based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other type = 50%
  2. Select response type questions (MCQ) = 20%
  3. Constructed response questions (Short Answer/Long Answer type Questions, as per existing pattern) = 30%

CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2023-24

  1. Competency Focused Questions in the form of MCQs/Case Based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other type = 40%
  2. Select response type questions (MCQ) = 20%
